TOO HOT TO HANDLE

Jane Willoughby has a temper. Sure, in her day job answering calls for 911, she can keep her head no matter what the emergency. But when her ex appears on her doorstep on her first sick day in years, expecting her to act happy he’s her co-chair for the annual fireman’s ball, she feels a little righteous wrath is justified.

Chance McGovern broke up with her with a greeting card, for crying out loud. He doesn’t get to just sprout some washboard abs and put on a uniform and behave like any other tasty firefighter.

Jane has no idea what’s happened to Chance in the last nine years—and no interest in finding out. Not even a teeny-tiny spark. No matter how hot he is. Or how well he remembers the little things that make her laugh, and cry, and spontaneously combust.

And she’s going to be working with him one-on-one. At least there’s a fireman on call . . .

Janet's 4 Star Review:

This was a very pleasant surprise. It has a nice writing style, a brisk pace and was funny.

Jane and Chance were high school sweethearts but it all ended abruptly when Chance left town for college and ended it with Jane by postcard! Ten years later they meet again when Chance takes a job as assistant Fire Chief and Jane works as a 9-1-1 dispatcher. Seeing Chance brings back the feelings of hurt and rage for Jane and she is not eager to forgive and forget (even if she is still attracted to him). Chance also feels the sparks, but he has a little boy and (almost) ex-wife to deal with.

As they are both organizing the charity ball for the Pineville Fire Department in one month they are stuck with each other.

This is a second-chance story and it was well executed. There are some interesting secondary characters and there was no over-the-top drama. Nicely done!
