Person of Interest (A Celeste Eagan Mystery) by Emery Harper

Follow the zany antics of Celeste Eagan: prep school theater teacher by day, amateur sleuth by night. The first book in a new series from author Emery Harper, full of mystery and mayhem.

Just last week, I was a regular single mom and drama teacher at Peytonville Prep with a semi-normal life. The only real drama I had to deal with involved my football-coach ex and his hussy girlfriend. And maybe deciding if I should take that full-time principal/actress job at the local playhouse.

Everything changed when I discovered my boss hanging in his office. The suicide turned out to be a murder and my ex went suspiciously MIA. I tried to find some answers, but all that got me was labeled a person of interest by the attractively uptight Detective Shaw Muldoon. Not exactly the way I was hoping to interest him, if you know what I mean.

Now my life is plenty exciting, if you count a stint in jail, several attempted break-ins, more dead bodies and the odd exploding car. Did I mention I also have my own personal stalker? It's becoming pretty clear that if I don't unmask the killer soon, my life won't ever be boring again…it will be over.

Janet's five star review:

This book really checks a LOT of my favorite (mystery) boxes. Lovely lady sleuth (check), great story (check), funny (check), hot yummy detective (double check). A new favorite for sure. This is the first Emery Harper book I read.

Celeste lives with her daughter Paige after her divorce from Colin. They both work at a prestigious school, she a theater teacher and he a coach, although the fact Colin's girlfriend Naomi works there as well is not too great. When the principal Chad is found dead - by Celeste - life changes really fast. The very handsome detective Muldoon has his eye on Celeste as an Person of Interest and Celeste keeps getting in his way when she decides to do some sleuthing of her own. An exploding car, someone searching her house and taking shots at her complicate her life, and the tingles she feels whenever Muldoon is near confuse her.

I like Celeste as the heroine and Shaw Muldoon is the perfect stern but attentive hero. There is some great banter between them and attraction... There is also her best friend, Eli, and intelligent daughter Paige. And Muldoon has a big family we as yet know nothing about.

The perfect start of - I hope - at least some more books.

For those lovers of romantic mystery I highly recommend this one.

The publication date is August 29, 2016.

Undiscovered (Treasure Hunter Security #1) by Anna Hackett

Finding undiscovered treasures is always daring, dangerous, and deadly. Perfect for the men of Treasure Hunter Security. Former Navy SEAL Declan Ward is haunted by the demons of his past and throws everything he has into his security business--Treasure Hunter Security. Dangerous archeological digs - no problem. Daring expeditions - sure thing. Museum security for invaluable exhibits - easy. But on a simple dig in the Egyptian desert, he collides with a stubborn, smart archeologist, Dr. Layne Rush, and together they get swept into a deadly treasure hunt for a mythical lost oasis. When an evil from his past reappears, Declan vows to do anything to protect Layne.

Dr. Layne Rush is dedicated to building a successful career--a promise to the parents she lost far too young. But when her dig is plagued by strange accidents, targeted by a lethal black market antiquities ring, and artifacts are stolen, she is forced to turn to Treasure Hunter Security, and to the tough, sexy, and too-used-to-giving-orders Declan. Soon her organized dig morphs into a wild treasure hunt across the desert dunes. Danger is hunting them every step of the way, and Layne and Declan must find a way to work together...to not only find the treasure but to survive.

Janet's 4 Star Review:

This is the first in a new series. Set in present time we meet archeologist Layne Rush as she is attacked on her dig site in Egypt. Valuable items are stolen and Treasure Hunter Security is hired to provide protection and retrieve the items. Declan Ward takes the case as he suspects the culprit is an old enemy. He does not expect to fall for the beautiful Layne.

Anna Hackett usually writes rather short novels and this one is short as well. But it feels like a full story as it is well plotted and the pace is fast. Layne and Declan have great chemistry even if their romance is swift due to the time constraint. The adventure is thrilling. Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider combined as an one hour tv episode.

I always enjoy Anna's stories but they do have a certain formula. I also like the Phoenix Adventures she writes, they are set in the future. Undiscovered has some interesting secondary characters. Personally I was intrigued by sister Darcy and the FBI Agent but the next 2 installments (one already published and one slated for a July publication) are about brother Callum and team mate Logan.

"He was over here for like five hours last night drinking and talking with Dad. You think I like him? My dad's in love. And the way he didn’t hesitate to put Benji in his place, I just think Dad’s got a good feeling about him."

"Shit, I've got a good feeling about him too... and it's in my panties." She laughs and motions toward her crotch. "If I had been working and saw him do that to Benji's fat ass, I would've let him f*ck me right on top of the bar…and I would’ve let everyone watch."

"I'm serious. F*ck it!”

"You're ridiculous."

"Paige, don't tell me you didn't notice that anaconda stuffed into his jeans?"

"What?! What the f*ck are you talking about? Anaconda? I wasn't looking at his damn jeans." I laugh, finding it hard to not to love this girl who has become like a sister to me. She's the craziest bitch I know, but she's got my back no matter what. She's had it since day one.

"Why wouldn’t you look at his jeans? That’s where his dick is!”

Shannon's Five Star Review:

Oh my at the feels this book gives! It is quite a page turning roller coaster of emotions. I had to read it in one sitting because there was no way I couldn't know what was happening next. I wanted to know, no, I HAD to know. Xander and Paige are from totally different worlds, so different yet so much alike.

Okay, so I'm not going to go into what the book was about, you've read the synopsis, so you already know what it's about. What I am going to tell you is, this is a great breakout solo novel from BT Urruela and I'm looking forward to reading many more in the Broken Outlaw Series.

Get your copy of this book, some popcorn, tissues, and your drink of choice, then hang on as you read this adventure set in a tiny town in Missouri. You won't be disappointed!

Wrong Place, Right Time (The Bourbon Street Boys #2) by Elle Casey

Jenny’s single-parent life revolves around her kids and her job, which means that hours of Animal Planet and strings of computer code are about all she has time for. Not that Jenny’s looking for adventure or romance—she’s the type of woman who believes in playing it safe.

When Jenny is called upon to do some consulting for the Bourbon Street Boys—a New Orleans private security firm—she knows she should stay away. They conduct surveillance on known criminals and put themselves in harm’s way pretty much every day, so No is the obvious answer…Problem is, there’s a guy on the team with a body to die for and a dimple that just won’t quit luring Jenny in, tempting her to throw all caution to the wind.

Will Jenny take the risk or will she do what she’s always done—play it safe and wait for the right time?

I enjoyed this book, but I didn't really feel like Jenny and Dev's story was finished. It felt a tad rushed at the end and I know there is already another book in the series lined up and their story will continue, but I felt like we could have used another chapter or two in their story.

I loved Jenny, as a single mom I really related to her and the fears that she had about not being around for her children enough and dating.

Dev, there is nothing more that I love than an awkward hero, you thought he would mean something and then he would turn around and say something that threw you off.

I did find this book to be a bit predictable and almost setting you up for Toni's story.

All that said I still couldn't put this book down and I finished it within a day.

Huntley Von Allister’s first mission sounded easy enough:

Get close to the hottest Prince on the planet.

Keep him safe.

Uncover the plot to assassinate him.

Kill the bad guys.

And don’t blow her cover.

She is well-trained and ready for anything . . . or so she thought.

Prince Lorenzo is called the Playboy Prince for a reason, and his brand of panty-melting charm is adding a whole new sexy level of complication. Especially considering she has way too much chemistry with his friend and Olympic athlete, Daniel Spear.

Now the biggest challenge of her mission?

Protecting her heart.

Spies, secret missions with twists and turns! And love, don't forget love! This book. I can't recomend it enough! I *need* my book friends to pick it up and read it right now so I can have someone to fangirl about it with!

"This is my mission. My love. My pain. My past. All muddled together, like a song in my soul." I think this line pretty much sums up the whole book!

I can't wait for the next book in what will be one of my new favorite series!

So About the Money by Cathy Perkins (Holly Price Mystery Series book 1)

Holly has left her home town 6 years ago and has been part of a M&A team in Seattle. She has a thriving career, but is she happy? When her father takes off with his yoga teacher it leaves her mother in the lurch with the family accounting firm, so Holly decides to take a 1-year leave to sort out the business and sell it. When she goes hiking/hunting with her new boyfriend Alex, they find the body of a woman. And it is a woman they both know from work.

Enter JC Dimitrak, detective on the case, and also Holly's ex-fiance. Six years ago they were madly in love, but then Holly left. You will find out what happened and also that Holly and JC are still very much attracted to each other.

I was totally engrossed by the story. The chemistry between JC and Holly is obvious and while Holly is butting into JC's investigation accidents start to happen to her. Who is Marcy's killer and why?? This is a romantic mystery, with some steam.

The book could be read as a stand-alone with a satisfying ending, but I was excited to read there will be another JC/Holly book in the near future called The Rockcrawler Book. So join the fun and start reading!
